Exciting New Opportunity in Independent Mixed Veterinary Practice
My client is looking for one full-time or two part-time permanent Registered Veterinary Nurse(s) to work in their independent mixed Veterinary Practice in rural mid-Devon.
- The successful applicant will play an integral role in their friendly and experienced small animal team with the option to get involved with some large animal work if desired.
- You will have a range of responsibilities including inpatient care, theatre work, nurse consultations, lab work, infection control etc
- They welcome fresh ideas and enthusiasm, excellent communication skills are a must, with the opportunity to help expand their nurse services offered to their clients
- Working hours will be divided between their two surgeries
- No out-of-hours but a maximum of 1 in 3 Saturdays on a rota basis.
- CPD encouraged and funded, staff discount scheme, work based pension offered
- Salary £28k – £32k (DOE)
Duties and Responsibilities
- To assist with or perform operations within the RCVS Code of Conduct
- To assist in the preparation of theatre for daily activities and to perform weekly and month maintenance tasks
- To assist in administration and maintenance of anaesthesia
- To ensure the correct handling and hygiene treatment of instruments, drapes and other equipment
- To assist in preparation of operation sites
- To maintain a high standard of care of all clinical equipment
- To assist in the set up, maintenance and safety of X-ray equipment, ultrasound scanner and lab machines
- To assist in the provision of excellent pre-operative and post-operative care and treatment in line with practice policy
- To assist veterinary surgeons in consults and on house visits
- To undertake in house lab work, including biochemistry, haematology, urinalysis, ear cytology etc
- To adhere to all Health and Safety Policies relevant to veterinary practice
- To assist in stock control including the use of controlled drugs
- To assist other staff in performing daily tasks e.g. answering phones, booking appointments, cleaning of communal areas
- To assist in the training of junior members of staff e.g. ANAs, VCAs, trainee RVNs and students

- Be compassionate and empathetic in your work
- Be a genuine team player who can identify and act where help is needed
- Have the ability to work independently, use initiative and be adaptable
- A degree of flexibility is appreciated to help cover sickness/holidays
- Be proactive and assist in the development of the services offered to our clients
- Ideally have experience as you will frequently be working as the sole nurse, although confident newly qualified RVNs will be considered.
- Full driving licence and own transport
